Measurement and Cutting
Measure the length of the wall to determine the dimensions required for each section of skirting board. Use a saw or a specialized cutting tool to cut the PS skirting boards to the exact required lengths; be sure to account for joint seams. Typically, a 45-degree miter cut is made at wall corners to ensure a tighter and more natural-looking joint. When cutting, ensure the cut edges remain smooth and free of burrs; otherwise, the aesthetic appeal of the installation will be compromised.
Selection of Fixing Methods
PS skirting boards can be secured using either adhesive or nails. A commonly used method involves applying a strong construction adhesive evenly to the back of the skirting board, then pressing it firmly against the wall surface to secure it. In areas where the wall surface is uneven, a caulking compound or foam strips can be used as shims to level the board. If using nails for fixation, opt for small finishing nails or concealed fasteners to avoid damaging the surface of the skirting board; additionally, use wood putty to fill and smooth over the nail holes to maintain a flawless appearance.
Finishing Touches
Once the installation is complete, inspect each section of the skirting board to ensure it fits snugly against both the wall and the floor, verifying that there are no visible gaps. For wall corners or joints, use white sealant or caulking compound to fill the seams; this not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also helps prevent dust accumulation. Finally, wipe down the surface with a clean cloth to remove any adhesive residue or dust, thereby completing the entire skirting board installation process.
